Renting a motorcycle locally, whether in Marrakech, Agadir or Casablanca, is the most strategic solution for a successful road-trip. Here are the concrete advantages of renting locally versus importing your own vehicle from Europe.
Significant time savings
By opting for a direct flight to the main Moroccan cities (Tangiers, Fes, Rabat, etc.*), you eliminate the connecting flight across Europe.
Time savings: Save between 4 and 8 days on round-trip travel.
Less fatigue: arrive refreshed and ready to tackle the stony tracks of the Atlas mountains or the dunes of the desert, without the exhaustion of thousands of kilometers of highway beforehand.
*Check low-cost flights. Note that flights can be more expensive during high season (vacations and summer). Always try to book 4 to 6 months in advance.
Real financial savings
The cost of a motorcycle trip is not limited to fuel. By renting locally, you can avoid major additional costs:
European freeway tolls.
Ferry tickets for crossing the Straits.
Accommodation and meals during transit.
Insurance extensions specific to Morocco.
Preservation of your personal vehicle
The Moroccan terrain is demanding for mechanics. Renting a motorcycle allows you to avoid :
Premature wear: Heat and abrasive roads wear tires, chains and suspension twice as fast.
Depreciation: You don't add thousands of kilometers to the odometer of your own motorcycle, preserving its resale value.
Heavy maintenance: No specific oil changes or servicing required before or after the trip.
Safety and technical assistance
One of the biggest advantages is peace of mind. Unlike a trip with your own motorcycle:
Immediate assistance: In the event of breakdown or breakage during normal use, we intervene quickly.
Vehicle replacement: If the motorcycle is immobilized, we provide you with a replacement vehicle so that your trip doesn't come to an end.

Unless you plan to stay 3 weeks or more with your motorcycle, renting is the best option for you.
Adaptability of equipment: Rent a motorcycle specifically equipped for Moroccan terrain (mixed/off-road tires, engine protection, adapted luggage) that you may not have on your usual touring bike.
Administrative simplification: Avoid the complex customs formalities associated with temporary vehicle importation (D16 Ter), which can sometimes cause delays at border crossings.
Access to local advice: By renting from Morocco-Rides, a local expert, you benefit from updated GPS routes and real-time advice on trail conditions.

Contact morocco-rides if you'd like a quote on longer rentals. We'll give you a price you can't refuse.

No, there is no advance payment and we can put you in touch with your guide if you have any questions. In some cases if there are delivery charges in certain cities and depending on the number of bikes booked especially in high season we may require a deposit.

Rental

When you pick up the motorcycle, as with any vehicle rental service, an inspection will take place. It's important to point out anything that needs to be mentioned on the contract: scratches or damage you can see on the motorcycle, abnormal wear of brake pads, wear of tires, chain, clutch cables, etc. Check together oil and coolant levels, front and rear braking or any engine noise problems. Together, check oil and coolant levels, front and rear braking or any engine noise problems.
Take photos of the motorcycle if you have any doubts.
Upon return of the motorcycle, a new inspection will be carried out.

Yes, the security deposit is compulsory. It can be paid in cash or reserved on your credit card. It ranges from 1000 € to 2000 € depending on the motorcycle.

Your security deposit will be returned to you upon return of the motorcycle and after a joint inspection.

Please remember that as a rider you are responsible for the motorcycle during the rental period. The security deposit may be retained in the event of damage to the motorcycle, including but not limited to engine failure due to use in sand and dunes or on rough tracks, abnormal engine noise, clutch discs, excessive oil consumption or radiator leaks. The security deposit can also be used to cover costs incurred by delays in returning the motorcycle, as well as to pay the insurance excess in the event of an accident.
Unlike other rental companies, Morocco-Rides does not charge extra kilometers or cleaning costs.

You'll need a valid driver's license, passport or identity card.

Before you leave, the Morocco-Rides team will provide you with the following documents:

Picking up and returning the motorcycle

Our goal is to provide an easy and stress-free rental experience. There are two important steps in your rental: picking up and returning the motorcycle.

We are close to the five major airports of Casablanca, Rabat/Salé, Marrakech, Fez and Tangier
You can decide where you want to pick up and drop off without any stress! Subject to availability and certain conditions, we can also deliver directly to your accommodation.

Please make sure you fill up with well-known international brands, and where you see locals or cabs filling up, as we've had injection problems with diluted fuel (don't wait until the tank is empty), fill up with small quantities as soon as you pass a recognized service station.

Yes, the motorcycle must be returned as it was provided to you at the start of the rental.

Yes, you are responsible for the motorcycle and for keeping it in good working order. If you fail to check the oil, coolant or chain lubrication, you will be liable for the full amount of the deposit, or part of it. Do not add any motor oil without consulting us, as there are imitation oils from leading brands.
Ask our mechanics what oil and where you can buy it in case you run out. Before you set off, be sure to ask the mechanic how and when to check the oil level, and what brand you can add.

Driving and road safety

Driving in Morocco is not "dangerous" per se, but it does require slower driving and increased vigilance. The main road infrastructure (freeways and trunk roads) is in excellent condition.

The challenge: sharing the road. You'll come across trucks, buses, carts, animals and pedestrians, sometimes in the same lane.

Behavior: In town, traffic is dense and horns are frequently honked. Outside built-up areas, driving is rather peaceful, as long as safety distances are respected.

Morocco applies a "zero tolerance" policy, with numerous speed cameras.
Limits: * 60 km/h in town.
80 or 100 km/h on national roads (depending on signs).
120 km/h on freeways.
Checks: These are very frequent, especially at the entrances and exits of villages (gendarmerie checks). Mobile radars (binoculars) are legion.
Penalties : Fixed-rate fines (often 300 DH) are payable immediately. You will always receive an official receipt.

This is not recommended for tourists.

Lack of lighting: Most secondary roads are not lit.

Invisible obstacles: It's not uncommon to come across bicycles without lights, donkeys, stray dogs or broken-down vehicles parked on the side of the road without signage.

Glare: Some drivers use their headlights inappropriately, making visibility dangerous.

The Atlas: The roads are often winding and spectacular. Although paved, they can be narrow. Beware of landslides after heavy rain or snow in winter (passes like Tizi n'Tichka).

The South: National roads leading to Ouarzazate, Merzouga or Zagora are generally wide and well-maintained. However, the verges are often sandy or steep: avoid biting the shoulder at high speed.

Breakdown: Immediately contact the assistance number provided on your contract. The breakdown network is highly responsive, even in remote areas.
Accident: Don't move the vehicle if you want the insurance to work.
Call the Royal Gendarmerie (177) out of town or the Police (19) in town.
An amicable report can be filled out for minor damage, but the intervention of the authorities is recommended for a rental vehicle.
Solidarity: Moroccans are very supportive; it's rare to be left alone for long without someone stopping to offer a helping hand.

The terrain and village crossings considerably slow down the average hourly speed.
In mountainous areas (Atlas): Expect an average speed of 40 to 50 km/h. A 200 km stage can take 4 to 5 hours.
On main roads: Expect an average speed of around 70 km/h.
Expert advice: Don't exceed 250 to 300 km per day to enjoy the scenery and arrive at your stage before nightfall.
